Keiko Sugimoto graduated from International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1993. She received an Msc degree at University of Osaka, Japan, in 1995 and a PhD degree at the Australian National University in 2000. She studied the role of cortical microbutules and cellulose microfibrils in determining growth anisotropy in plants. From 2000 she worked as a postdoctoral fellow and then as a JSPS fellow at John Innes Centre, UK, to study genetic mechanisms of cell-size control in plants. She became a group leader in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at John Innes Centre in 2005. She joined RIKEN Plant Science Center in July 2007.
